A Life in Art: GF Watts 1817-1904 Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village, Surrey
28 February – 5 November 2017
The exhibition takes a chronological journey through his illustrious life.
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of GF Watts' birth, the gallery brings together a selection of his drawings, paintings, sculptures and sketches in order to demonstrate the full breadth of his talent.
The display highlights key moments in his career, from his early days and rise to prominence to his position as a world-famous artist.
Little-known drawings from Watts Gallery Trust's collection make the case for why his contemporary Frederic Lord Leighton declared him as 'England's Michelangelo', while more elaborate paintings are used to provide insight into his creative process.
