In ‘The Book Beautiful: William Morris, Hilary Pepler and the private press story’, we explore the influence that William Morris and his prominent Kelmscott Press had on the development of St Dominic’s Press. Included in the exhibition is the most prominent book to be published by the Kelmscott Press, The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, designed by Morris and the leading PreRaphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones (completed in June 1896).

RE The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, The Masters at Bankside Galleries Thames Riverside, 48 Hopton Street, London SE1 9JH

The Masters Award at The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) prize was won by Laura Rosser for her woodcut, Golden Girl, (130 x 150cm). The detail of the woodcutting was fine and remarkable and the image both traditional and avant-garde in composition. Her pricing was also extremely reasonable for a large image that took a great deal of work and time to produce.

It was decided to split the prize money between two young artists. The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition 2015 prize was won by Emma Hopkins for her portrait of the barman and artist at the Chelsea Arts Club. Emma searches out subjects that interest her and paints them in uncompromising detail. The results are startling and extremely strong. After spending time in Madagascar working on an orangutan reserve, in November 2016 Emma took part in the Face/Time exhibition at 90 Piccadilly, London where she exhibited a very strong portrait of Ann Bates OBE showing her mastectomy.
